MISSION & VISION FOR VIRGINIA LACROSSE

Virginia Lacrosse Legacy Foundation (“The Foundation”): Our mission is to organize alumni, fans, and those who care about the charitable interests of Virginia lacrosse. Together, we make key & strategic decisions on how funds should be allocated to the University of Virginia athletic department to better the experience of Men’s Lacrosse Student athletes. We are stronger with our collective interests in mind. The University of Virginia is the best combination of school, social, and athletics to compete for a national championship every single year—bar none.

How the Fundraising Works:
A Board of Directors, formed from & by alumni, friends of the program, and parents, from across the decades of Virginia Lacrosse, have arranged a Private Fundraiser to raise money on behalf of the Virginia Lacrosse Legacy Foundation. Donors may visit the Foundation’s website to better understand our mission & goals. Funds may be taken by ACH or credit card directly from the website platform.

Fundraising will be split into two major categories:
• Annual membership giving
• Major gift

Tax Deductible & Tax Free Status:
Donations are 100% tax deductible. Any interested donor is guided to further explore their eligibility for the tax specialist.

Responsibility of the Board:
Allocating the funds on behalf of the Foundation. Having a critical understanding of donors desire and the needs of the Virginia Men’s Lacrosse program. Providing transparency into fund allocation.

How does it get to the athletes:
Ultimately, the funds are allocated to the Virginia Athletics Foundation or into the sports enhancement fund. The Board is constantly evaluating opportunities to offset the living expenses of our student athletes including grants.

The Five Buckets:
At this present time, the board sees three specific buckets for allocation. Scholarship Endowment, Coaching Endowment, and Operating Expense Endowment, internship/job program, alumni engagement.

Visibility:
There has always been a clear goal of donors to the Men’s Lacrosse program. Visibility and directly seeing how each dollar is spent and allocated to the program will be critical to the success of the Virginia Lacrosse Legacy Foundation.

The Future:
The Foundation is meant to live on well past any board member or time and benefit Virginia Men’s Lacrosse in perpetuity. The ultimate goal is to move the Foundation from a board-elected Board of Directors to a member-elected Board of Directors.

A Coach’s Duty:
We believe that head coaches should be responsible for coaching, recruiting, and developing a culture. Our mission helps give that time and energy back into the program.

What we are NOT:
We are not an NIL collective. The board believes that NIL has a purpose in the college sports platform but will not associate themselves with that. If a full scholarship, top notch operating expense budget, and elite coaching staff at a renowned university competing for a national championship isn’t enough for you, go somewhere else.
